Dr Hellig obtained his medical undergraduate degree at Stellenbosch University cum laude, and after completing his internship and community service, spent time as a medical officer in urology and surgery at two hospitals affiliated with the University of Witwatersrand.

Dr Hellig received his specialist training in urology at Tygerberg Academic Hospital, Stellenbosch University, and after obtaining his Masters of Medicine cum laude, continues his academic interests at Groote Schuur Hospital, combined with the private sector.

Dr Hellig is well-published in international journals and holds a part-time consultant position at Groote Schuur Hospital and the University of Cape Town. He has served as a reviewer for the World Journal of Urology.

Dr Hellig has a specific interest in minimally invasive surgery and manages a broad spectrum of urological conditions, including benign disorders such as benign prostate enlargement, kidney stones, reconstructive urology, paediatric urological conditions and urological cancers.
