Dr Chwayita Asandiswa Makrexeni is a Mthatha-born specialist obstetrician gynaecologist. She matriculated at Umtata High School in 2002. Thereafter she obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 2009 from the University of Cape Town (UCT). She worked as an intern at Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital (NMAH) until end of 2011. In 2012 she discovered a passion for obstetrics while performing Community Service at Bisho Hospital. She worked as a medical officer in the field of obstetrics in several hospitals in the Eastern Cape. She eventually obtained a Fellowship of the College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FCOG) in 2018 from Colleges of Medicine of South Africa (CMSA). She completed her MMed in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2022 at Walter Sisulu University (WSU), whereafter she was appointed as senior lecturer. She is currently undergoing training as a Fellow on Maternal-Fetal Medicine at NMAH. She is passionate about learning, impartation of skills and knowledge, and empowerment of women through education.
