Kobus Nel is one of the Crestcare Hospital Group's Regional Hospital Managers, based in Malmesbury in the Western Cape, where he also serves as Acting Hospital Manager of Crestcare Malmesbury Hospital. He joined Crestcare with a diverse background that began with an interest in electronics and electrical engineering, leading him to complete a degree in Electrical Engineering and take up a lecturing post at what was then the Technikon of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. His passion for the interaction between engineering and the human body drew him to a further degree in Clinical and Biomedical Engineering, which in turn propelled him into private healthcare and, eventually, hospital management. Working towards an MBA while managing a private hospital during the COVID pandemic was a true test of will and determination that developed a deeper appreciation for holistic healthcare delivery. Kobus now applies the skills, experience and insight he has acquired not only in his role as a hospital manager, but also in a doctoral study that he believes will further benefit private healthcare and the Crestcare group. He has a keen interest in the environmental sustainability of businesses, while recognising both the needs and potential of people. These interests are evident in his portfolio of ESG initiatives and projects, pursued alongside a commitment to ethical business practices aimed at improving healthcare for all.
